Should death penalty be banned ?
Who are we to decide who should live and who should not ? Pertaining to Mohd Afsal Guru's case if we hang him what will be the difference between terrorists and us? Hanging somebody is not a solution .What we need is a broader solution. Lets assume that he is hanged what will happen next? Another parliament attack, then another death sentence . This is a vicious circle which needs to be broken. Solution lies in the reconstruction of jails. Our jails should have a curriculum which should include medidation and all. It seems hard but plausible . Hanging seems to be easy way out both for the administratin and the culprit. Culprit should be given the time to reflect upon his deeds. Death penalty is a form of retributtal violence which promotes the culture of violence in any civilization. I will call it resorting to barbarism . How can the means be violence to a contradictory end i.e. non violence??

we should not ban the death penalty in any case.Death penalty is there from the begining of the humena era and it creates the ultimate fear of death if you do any crime which no other punishment can create. People often restrain himself from doing crime because of this fear. So saying that this is a vicious circle is not true.
We even can not say that reconstruction of jail can substitute the idea of death penalty because even in USA and UK where jail are more secure and provides a very good facilities and rehabilitation, local and international gangs operate from jails.
And above all do you realy want to give a second chance to a suicide attacker by letting him walk freely on our streets?
In order to shun away the responsibilty of security lapses government cannot kill people in the name of justice.
justice doesn't have to do any thing with governence.
No government gives order for a death penalty. Its our justice system which, after considering all evidence and proof of crime, give this order.
consider a senario when our security forces in an encounter caught a militants after loosing some of its men and we are not giving this guy a death penalty.
Will anybody risk his life again for this cause?
Or are we doing fare with those Martyrs?
well to deeply understand what I am saying you can visit orkut community kpyouth delhi and refer to the same topic u'll know wat i am saying
In my view death penalty is there to stay. We should not forget that the person who is being hanged has done something which is not acceptable in a civilized society. In a democracy the people appoint people who protect the law and maintain order and the people who go against the law of the land are bound to face action in whatever form.
Although i think in some cases death penalty can be done away with but in cases where a person has conspired against the state, then that person deserves nothing but death and i am in favour of death punishment for Afzal Guru.
Also in cases where there is rape and murder death penalty is a must in those cases.
