ESPRIT-DE-CORPS: RULE BOOK

This is a book, which will help all the future members of the Esprit-de-corps committee. This book is a written document, which familiarizes the members with the experiential learning I had during the making of the very first Departmental Magazine of Commerce. The first time we thought of coming up with a Department Magazine, we faced some situations. In order to help you people deal with such situations I am writing this book.
As it was for the first time that we were coming up with the magazine, a lot of things were unknown to us. I would like to familiarize you with such unknown aspects that might help you and make things easy for you.
The idea was conceptualized Ms.Abha Shukla sometime in September, and 2girls volunteered for the editors’ post.

RULES:

1. What articles are to be published is in the Editors domain. The review committee should consist of 3 or 5 Editors (odd number) not more that. The review committee should not be known to anyone except the committee members and the faculty members. The decision on what is to be published should be based on majority i.e. if 2 or more in favor in case of 3 editors and 3 or more in favor in case of 5 editors then article should be published subject to the approval of Teacher Advisor and the HOD. Any article, which has minority, will not be considered at all.

2. One person cannot hold more that one position.

3. Positions and the role description:
Chief Editors:
Convening of the meeting, coordination of work, and selection of articles: proof reading, editions in articles e.g. grammatical etc.

Editors: selection of articles, proof reading, editions etc. Remember the only difference between the Editor and Chief Editor is that the Chief Editor convenes the meetings and coordinates work. Nowhere is this mentioned that Chief Editor is SUPREME. He or she cannot solely decide what articles to be published etc. A majority in Editors is required for the same.

Treasurer: Collection of money from students, safekeeping of money, preparation of accounts. From each college one representative can be selected who can collect the money from his or her college and submit it to the Treasurer, for convenience sake you can have one Treasurer from final year and one from previous year.
They should keep with them all the receipts of expenses and be ready with the final accounts as and when required. They will have to give a written account on the day of the release of the Magazine, any one who has contributed money can ask for the accounts.

Publishing Department: These people will be going to the publishers as and when required and do the necessary work.

4. Fund Raising : Three sources of finance are:
A. Students of the department
B. Faculty Members
C. Sponsors

5. Kind of articles: The ratio is 40% general articles including poetry, creative work relating to socio economic issues. Religious articles should not be included as religion is a sensitive issue.
60% of the articles should be commerce related. The tutees work that students have done can be shortened and used. Articles from faculty can be invited, interviews from foreign students, database of students (as suggested by The HOD).

6.Kindly follow direct communications to avoid any problems. If you want to talk about the Magazine talk in meetings. Do not call each other to discuss issues.
Bring to the notice of everyone that you thing is important for the committee.

7.Begin the work in the beginning of September so that you can come out with the issue before December holidays. One meeting per week will be a good idea.

Art of living

Aggression is within
Calmness is without
Who will win
Doubt is within

The moment of reckoning
Has come
The Art of living
Is fun

I am peace
Peace is me

War is around
Self is peace

Around is dynamic
Self is stable

Mind wonders in past
Mind dances in future
Breath is the connection
Which is the present

Joy is present
Peace is present

Centre is beautiful
Emotions are ugly

Difficult to surrender
Irritating to suffer

You are me
I am you
See in your eyes
I see myself

The mirror does not differentiate
Who am I to differentiate
Always accept myself
So why so hard to accept the mirror image

Smile for the eternal
Eternity is me

Body so fragile
But the self is eternal

If the self is eternal
Why be greedy

Present is inevitable
Self is eternal

Peace is not outside
Calmness is within

Peace is within
Aggression is without.

Can I let it go??

Heart beats too fast
Life seems to last

Cannot find solace
Time lost its pace

Inumerable queries in the soul
Confusion in the role

Feeling so sorry
Have lost control

Mind still sane
Heart in utter pain

My part successfully played
Apprehension of consequence surfaced

Can I let it go??
Can I take it slow??

The hurry to reach the destination
Makes the journey monotonous

Is life led for ends
Or means that tends to ends

The more you enjoy the means
The tension release

Can I let it go??
Can I take it slow??

Frustration at its peak
Confidence ready to leak

Was the effort in vain?
Will it ever rain?

The aim was to gain
Gain which is so lame

Time to let it go
Time to take it slow

The journey suffices
End craves for more

Can I let it go??
Can I take it slow??

Wind will always blow
I will let it go

With each drop of the river
I intend to flow
But a little slow

Can I let it go ??
Will I let it go??

The Master
The path you have shown
The mind you have enlighten

Unstability to stability
At peace with myself

Key to treasury
Live life pleasurably
Sucess to fulfillment
Aggression to calmness

A road so long
Energy was gone

You brought the hope
Ability to cope

Smile is all it takes
Happiness is all it makes

You are a Godsent
An angel to guide

If there is no light
Sun is yet so bright

Energy is all you need
Calm is all you be

Love is all you give
Be true to self

Just do your best
Almighty will do the rest

If life is crazy
Don't be so lazy

Hang in for a while
He will smile

Just walk a mile
To realise the potential

If life is so unfair
Just don't care

Do what you are born to do
Life is a garden

If autumn is on
Spring can not be farther

The Shiva in me
Longs for Vishnu and Brahma

The wait for trinity
To be bound in unity

Will soon be over
But the gratitude for THE Master
Will never cease to exit
Zeal to live will coexist.
( A self composed poem to express my gratitude towards Master Del Pe)

If only I could

Born to the unknown
Left to stray
If only I could
Be born to a mother

Day in day out,
living on the street .
If only I could ,
Have a shelter.

Eat from the bin ,
No single kin .
If only I could ,
eat from a plate.

Stealing to live ,
living to plead .
Begging to live,
pleading to die .

If only I could ,
live for respect .

Kicked by children,
Spanked by elders .
If only I colud,
Live to be loved .

A building too tall ,
entered by all .
If only I could ,
Enter it with all .

Looked down upon ,
For I don't have a mother .
Don't even have a home

For I don't have food
Don't even have education .

Am I the filthy
Am I the rogue

I am what they made me .

Wasn't born filthy
Wasn't born rogue

I was also born a human
Was born unequal
Was born unloved

If only I could,
Enjoy a smile .

If only I could ,
Live for a while.

Ain't so strong,
Proved to be wrong .
If only I could,
Be reborn.

Causes of US housing bubble

A bubble is a short term phenomenon as it hangs around in the air for a while and bursts . The bubble in the housing market of US can be defined as rapid increase in the valuation of property . The major causes of this bubble are : low interest rate, poor lending standards and mania forpurchasing house.
The low interest rate was a consequence of dot com bubble ( in 1990s the internet sector shoot up and many companies entered the dot com business, in order to reap the benefits they incurred huge initial looses ) , which lead to a similar credit crunch in the market and hence the rate was cut. As money was easily available people took loans to speculate and join the party housing bubble party.
Not only this people considered purchasing houses as a good investment as no interest qualifies for the tax break, also the it the popular myth that the value of house always appreciates contributed to the formation of the bubble.
Aggressive advertising also had its role to play in this bubble game . The purchasing of houses was no more an investment rathr a speculative activity. Adding fuel to the fire was the sub prime lending . People with low credit score could easily get the loan but at a higher rate ( details in the previous post).
The party is over resulting in foreclosures , credit crunch, panick , risk aversion , stock exchange crashes .
Has US come a full circle? Will the Fed cut the rates again( dot com bubble)? Are the credit agencies to be blamed ?Is US economy heading towards recession( increase in unemployment, will it lead to decline in consumption and import levels and hence effect other economies????)

Let me be me

Chained in the rules of society,

I have forgotten my priority.

Why is it so important for them ,

While insignificant for me.

Imposition by them ,

Submission by me .

For a nano second ,

Let me be me.

Was born to fly,

Is forced to crawl.

Is it the destiny ,

Or my own fallacy ?

Is it them ,

Or is it me?

Is it acceptance ,

Or is it resistance?

One haunting song,

All night long .

Let me be me ,

Let me be me .

Was born with a sword,

Aware of my prerogative.

Was it taken away,

Or was it given away?

Blaim too heavy to be shouldered alone ,

Easier to be shifted .

Hear it again ,

Dare it again.

Convergence is society,

Divergence is identity.

Confusion is vice ,

Action is virtue .

To be or not to be ??

Action makes me , me

Inaction makes me , unme.

Beg not from society ,
But from the unme .

How many times have you been harassed?

How many times has it happened in a DTC bus or a blueline that you are standing and a man is standing right behind you rubbing himself against you and how many times have you actually gathered the courage to speak up? This is something that happens daily with thousands of women in the buses anb most of them keep quiet and encourage the men to go a step further.
A friend of mine told me , once a boy tried to pinch her breast and she backfired to which he asked,"What did I do?" and she replied, "you just pinched my breast ." The whole bus was dumbstruck. Afterwards a girl said to her,"why did you say that ?" Most of the women feel you should ignore such issues
Why?? Because we are women and are suppose to me meek and docile.
While coming from college these kind of things happen to me and never do I ignore such issues . I always shout at the top of my voice and tell the man to back off. These bloody men are no less than animals as both lack self control.

Should death penalty be banned?

Should death penalty be banned ?
Who are we to decide who should live and who should not ? Pertaining to Mohd Afsal Guru's case if we hang him what will be the difference between terrorists and us? Hanging somebody is not a solution .What we need is a broader solution. Lets assume that he is hanged what will happen next? Another parliament attack, then another death sentence . This is a vicious circle which needs to be broken. Solution lies in the reconstruction of jails. Our jails should have a curriculum which should include medidation and all. It seems hard but plausible . Hanging seems to be easy way out both for the administratin and the culprit. Culprit should be given the time to reflect upon his deeds. Death penalty is a form of retributtal violence which promotes the culture of violence in any civilization. I will call it resorting to barbarism . How can the means be violence to a contradictory end i.e. non violence??

Experience

Life is full of experiences , some are pleasent & some are not so pleasent but each experience teaches you something . Ana Maria Santos has rightly said ," Each journey corresponds to one more step in one's knowledge of the world and of one's own personality."At some point of time each one of you must have felt that why does it always happen to me ? Have you ever tried to answer it ?????? I have and the answer is plain and simple each act has a purpose if you think about you it is a lesson and if you don't then it is a punishment for something you never did.
Learn from the past so that you can make your future worth living . Remember guilt and worry are two usesless emotions as the former keeps you worried about your deeds of past while the later keeps you worried about future . Live in the present , in the hurry of reaching the destination do not miss the enjoyment of the journey . " Means are as important as the ends .
After all Harivansh Rai Bachchan has said , "Man ka ho to acha , man ka na ho to aur bhi acha , kyunki phir wo bhagwan ke man ka hota hai ."

What is sub prime lending?

Broadly there are two types of lending : prime and sub prime. Prime lending is the lending made to people who have high credit score while sub prime lendings are for the people who have low credit score that is they might be delinquents or do not have good credit worthiness.
This kind of lending is a two way risky lending or should I say double risky .As the lender is not sure of getting the money back & from the borrowers point of view it is more risky than prime lending because the rate of interest charged is higher than that on prime lending( higher risk & higher return).

Aftermath of sub prime lending on India?

The immediate effect of sub prime lending was crashing of the sensex lead by selling off by the FII . Why did the FII indulge in selling spree? Due to the meltdown in the US market , the FII had no option but to sell off in order to have fresh liqudity. Not only this the selling off by FII also led to depreciation in the appreciating rupee , hence, it has been called as a blessing in disguise for the exporters. The global liquidity has mad the investors risk averse so the risk appetite has reduced.
Although the sell off by FII led to downward movement in the stock market , the domestic investor considered it an opportunity and bought the stocks(as the share prices had gone down) therefore the sensex did not drop to a very large extent thankfully due to domestic buyers opportunism .
Talking of the long term impact on the sensex it will be premature to really predict the direction but one thing is for sure India is one of the best bets as it has also been said bye Lehman Bro "India is the best EM" . So rather than sitting on your money people should be invested in Indian market . Will that to overflow of capital in India ?
Let us wait & watch.
